Daniel Van Cuylenburg

Hey there! I'm a self taught front-end web developer.
As well as being a keen, well organised, self motivated, problem solver, I’m also consumer focused and business minded. Possessing around 2 decades of experience (19 years professionally) in the field and have been happily providing my expertise to various small - medium size businesses, which have given me the privilege of being able to successfully support their clients. Some of which include: E.ON, BT, Land Rover, Unicef, Google, Philips and Nike.

I currently work for the Ellen MacArthur Foundation as a front-end developer. Every so often, I take on the occasional freelance work and when I'm able, also enjoy keeping up-to date on the cutting edge of software and hardware technology.

I'm a 39yr old Dad and live on the Isle of Wight, with my partner Hannah, and two kids, Cameron and Nash. Often I'm described as: adventurous, sporty, nature loving, travel enthusiast and adrenaline junky!
I’ve been a Vegetarian since I was 26. Had the pleasure of visiting amazing places, such as Thailand, Australia, Switzerland and the USA, to name but a few. And successfully completed a multitude of events for charity, including: running, walking, car pulling and swimming across the Solent.

After finishing School in 1996, I attended the Isle of Wight College, to study Engineering and then Business Admin GNVQ Levels 2 & 3. It was during this higher education period, of 3-4 years, that I picked up some valuable skills and my interest in the design and development of the World Wide Web.

In-between classes, I learnt to design and code in various web technologies, largely through trial and error, and the outcome of all my efforts , led me valuable experience in contributing to the maintenance of existing websites for the College itself. Shortly after, I gained my first role as a Web Developer in 2000.

However, If it wasn’t for my admiration of Guitars, starting back in my teen years, I may not be at the level I am in my Career today, because of the demands and fast paced nature that working in the Web requires.

It all started with my love of Music. Rock especially. Guitar was the instrument that I was devoted to, and from the age of 13 through to the last of my teenage years, I was heavily focused on being able to play songs from my Idols.

Though at times, allot of the learning was brutal, It taught me a few, necessary things, that I would need in my skill set in order to overcome all the bridges one requires to self teach. That was a very crucial period in my life.
I’ve now been playing Guitar for over 25 years and play lead acoustic in a band called Gecko.
